The short of things is that I got what is hopefully the year's worth of regular (and slightly irregular) maintenance done on the car for a fraction of what I'd anticipated, and the one thing that I'd been concerned with is fine. (And was yet again another less scrupulous shop just attempting to upsell unnecessary work.)

Talked to the owner for a bit after, mostly about our economic anxiety. He pointed out the absolute lack of traffic out front, which is indeed a main thoroughfare. I was able to pull right out and make a left, which I have never been able to do before... (I had also walked down to a diner to get breakfast, which was delicious, but I don't think I had to wait for a single car at any of the crosswalks.)

Hobby Market is next weekend so it's time to dig out the boxes again and hopefully find some fresh stuff for my table. I did start going through my shelves and gunpla stacks and hilariously, the first gunpla stack offered up two half-built kits (one of which I wasn't the one who started it) and a finished kit (again, not one I built so someone must've given it to me?)... I've finished the one and got it together minus a backpack I've utterly misplaced. The built one will get disassembled, cleaned, and probably become a paint experiment. Undecided on the last. I suppose I can at least finish it; it shouldn't be a difficult kit. (ETA: the bits that were already built were in pretty bad shape, so they're also getting bathed and cleaned and I'll see what I can do)

Longform articles about media analysis and other kinds of in depth meta discussion, I love talking to people about themes and narratives. I do occasionally write fanfic but not that often and I'm not really confident in it. I love to read it though.

About Me/Other Info:
Hi! I'm Ben, he/it. I like media with convoluted lore that has crazy implications if you think about it to its logical conclusion. I love having long detailed discussions about this and analyzing media from a queer/leftist perspective both in universe and out of universe. I would love to have mutuals to talk to about this stuff. My Tumblr is bensect and my website is bensect.space.
Some other non-fandom things I like: bugs, biology/ecology, Linux/open source, digital media preservation, datahoarding, indie webdev

Found_in_Translation_1k

I created a group on FiMFiction designed to link the English language stories that are found there to versions translated into other languages. The group, called Found in Translation, is meant as a resource for the larger, worldwide community, a reference library linking individual FiMFiction stories to the fanfiction archives scattered thither and yon on the Web, where translated versions of those stories have been stored. My intention is to make it easier for people to find translations in their native language, to show the global reach of fanfiction, to encourage networking and to satisfy everyone's values through friendship and ponies.

FiMFiction contains 124,897 stories that are rated Everyone and Teen. That's 2,009,968,811 words. If you were to read all it, non-stop, it would take you 797 weeks. Include the "Mature" stories and you're up to 160,889 stories. There is no easy way of finding stories published on FiMFiction that have been translated. Of the stories that have been translated, most do not say so in the story summary or teaser. Found in Translation changes that. It is a language-specific reference library with over 1,200 stories in the folders and with a forum where the links to the translations are given. Many of the stories are entire books, like Anthropology (translated into Spanish, Korean, Italian and Ukrainian), Fallout: Equestria (translated into Spanish, French and Italian) and Hard Reset (translated into Spanish, Russian and French). There are only 12 languages to choose from right now, but more languages will be added as they are found. So far the Spanish, Russian and Chinese folders contain over 300 stories each and the French folder has just under 200. This is a work in progress, more stories are added every day and lately I've been working on building up the Polish collection.

I figure that in order for a person to put in the time and effort to translate a story, it is probably a good story. Ergo, if you're looking for something to read, come on down to https://www.fimfiction.net/group/219287/found-in-translation and take a look. You could choose some translated fanfiction and polish your language comprehension skills, or you can always just come on by to find something to read in English.

The world is multi-lingual and so is the Pony fandom. Let's party!
